When we hear the term "founding father," we generally think of George Washington (you know, first in the hearts of his countrymen), Ben Franklin and the like. Who we generally DON'T think of is the incredible Thomas Paine. Not only did he spur the colonies on to patriotism and victory in the Revolution, but was advocating for universal suffrage (including blacks and women) by 1795. He also had several other progressive ideas.
